The WNY Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps has begun preparing for their 2020 season. This includes adding a new song, “Copacabana” to the repertoire which includes “Hang ‘Em High/Mag 7,” “New York, New York,” “America,”“Gonna Fly Now,” “Sunrise Lady” and “Elk’s Parade.” The corps is always looking for new members. If you’re a current horn player or drummer you can bring your playing to the next level by playing in the drum corps. The corps is free to participate in. Jack Kujawa, corps advisor, stated, “This corps is so much fun to be around and the talent is incredible. This is the perfect time to join because you have a lot of time to learn the music.” Dave Fridmann will again serve as corps director. Dave also works with the drum line and is the drum sergeant. The horn instructor/arranger position is again in the capable hands of Jonathon Fridmann and Mateo Mendez. Friends and family members are welcome to all corps functions. The WNY Alumni Drum and Bugle Corps, Inc. recently held its second annual banquet at the Kosciuszko Club. Entertainment was provided by the Alumni Drum Corps, which played a concert for family, friends and guests. Patrons from the bar, as well as caterers, also enjoyed the concert.
Corps Director, Robert Teclaw, thanked all the members and their families for their support throughout the season. Teclaw gave special thanks to Jack Kujawa, Corps Business Manager, for keeping the corps business going in his absence.
Corps member, Carl Vullo, expressed appreciation for the younger members of the group, “As older members, we feel like we’re here to help the younger members but in fact they are helping us and they do it with respect.”
This year’s brass instructor and music arranger is Jonathon Fridmann of Fredonia.
Kujawa said, “I can’t begin to tell you how much talent this young man has; he’s amazing.”
Drums will be taught by Kujawa.
The Corps starts its new season Thursday, November 5 at 7 to 9 p.m. The group will rehearse at American Legion Post 62, 211 Central Avenue, Dunkirk.
Members and new members should attend this rehearsal. The group will be learning new music.
