IMG_8345Continuing its tradition, The WNY Alumni Drum Corps, Inc. posed for this picture after entertaining hundreds of people along the parade route in this year’s Memorial Day celebration in Dunkirk.

Jack Kujawa, the corps business manager noted, “It’s important to remember the brave soldiers who gave their everything and the Vets who came home with memories they’d rather forget. We, The Western New York Alumni Drum Corps, Inc. salute the men and women who served their country with honor.”

The group will next appear in the Marilla Fireman’s Parade on June 14. As always, anyone interested in being part of the Alumni family can call Jack Kujawa at 410-2682.

The Memorial Day Service and Parade will assemble on Monday.

Services will begin at 10 a.m. in Memorial Park on Lake Shore Drive West and will be conducted by the participating organizations of the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council.

A service will precede at the Dunkirk Lighthouse at 8:45 a.m.

The Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council hosted a planning meeting for this year’s Memorial Day Service & Parade at the American Legion Post 62 in Dunkirk. The Services and Parade will be conducted on Monday, May 26, 2014. The Memorial Day Parade will start at approximately 11 a.m. and proceed East on Lake Shore Drive West to Central Avenue. The parade will turn onto Central Avenue and proceed South to Fifth Street. The Parade turns East on Fifth Street and disbands at Washington Park.

In case of inclement weather, the parade will be postponed for up to one hour.

Should the rain continue, Memorial Day Services will be at the American Legion Post 62, 211 Central Ave.

JROTC: The Dunkirk High School JROTC Marauder Battalion was activated in September 1995. The unit is commander by Lt. Col. Charles “Duke” Medema with SFC Frank Torain serving his eighteenth year as Army Instructor the organization has 84 cadets.

Dr. Robert Gage, Pastor of the First Baptist Church and Principal Clinton Lewis will lead a float with children from Central Christian Academy performing their new school song Central Christian Academy, Lyrics by Stephanie Pollock and music by Clinton Lewis.

Rubbermade Brigade: Homemade percussion. Group is directed by Mr. David VanWey of Dunkirk. Group is willing to experiment with any household item that is considered drum-able. Their repertoire consists of Cuban rhythm.
